Frequently asked questions

How do I install Archivar?
Open the downloaded file and drag Archivar into Applications. Archivar currently runs on Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later); a Windows version is on the way.
How do I try it for free?
On first start, choose “Try free for 14 days” and enter your e-mail. The trial has all modules and 30 documents; it can be used once per device and e-mail.
Where are my documents and data?
Only on your computer. The archive is in a folder you choose, the database in the app's folder. We have no access to them. More in privacy.
How do I back up my data?
In Settings → Data and backups you create a full backup (database and documents in one file). Archivar also makes a backup by itself every week and keeps the last two. You can encrypt the backup with a password.
What does Archivar send to AI?
Only the document being read, or the question for the assistants. It goes through our server, which doesn't store the content, to Google (Gemini) and for some features to Anthropic (Claude). The content isn't used to train AI.
How much is a “document”?
One document of up to 10 pages. A longer one counts per started ten pages, e.g. 23 pages are 3 documents. Documents are shared by all devices of a licence and reset on the 1st of each month.
Can I use Archivar on several computers?
Yes, depending on the plan (Solo 1, Start 2, Plus 3 devices). Enter the same activation code on each. When you replace a computer, free the old one in Settings → Licence, or move the licence straight to the new one.
What happens when the licence ends?
The app reminds you 30, 14 and 7 days ahead. After the end it locks; the documents sorted in your archive folder stay as ordinary files. Once you renew, Archivar continues where it left off.
Which languages does Archivar speak?
The interface has 15 languages. It reads and sorts documents in any language, from any country.
I forgot the password to my encrypted database.
The password is the only key to the data and can't be recovered, not even by us. Without it nobody can open the database, so write it down when you turn encryption on. The documents in your archive folder stay readable anyway.
